Golden Jubilee
GMC has celebrated Golden Jubilee function.
Colourful Decoration and Lighting during Golden Jubilee function (1946-
1996)
Message
to GMC on it's Golden Jubilee Celebration from Eminent Personalities
It all started with the untiring efforts of the family of GMC to celebrate
the Golden Jubilee Celebrations in a fitting way in 1996. The Govt. has
permitted to celebrate the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of GMC in the G.O.Ms.
No.242, Dt. 6-6-1996.
Accordingly, His Excellency Sri Krishnakanthji, the Governor of A.P.
and Smt. Suman Krishnakanthji have graced this institute on 25-6-96 and
laid the foundation stone for the “Pylon” and inaugurated the celebrations
with his commendable academic glory. He dipped his pen in a golden fluid
and his tongue in honey, he used both with deadly effect with simplicity
of statement and subtlety of his exposition.
The Construction of Pylon specially designed for the Golden Jubilee
Celebrations will speak volumes of the gesture of the old students and
family of this institute. Dr.M.Goplala Krishna, old student, former faculty
member has donated for the construction of Pylon, as it’s prominent place.
Sr. S. Rajeswara Rao is the Architect of the Pylon.
As planned and presented in the report of the inaugural function of
the G.J.C we have totally carried to the full satisfaction of every family
member of this institute the GJC celebrations. The construction of Pylon
has been completed and is being unveiled today by Sri H.D.Devegowda, Hon’ble
Prime Minister of India.
The College wore a festive look in the month of September, as the Daffodils
were made to bloom in the GMC. Daffodils the cultural and literary meet
held, as a part of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of GMC was a phenomenal
success. The Chief Guest of the inaugural function was the noted film and
stage artist Sri Dhulipalla. During the five day period from September
4-8, the contestants from various medical colleges participated in a gamut
of competitions which included essay writing, elocution, painting, floral
arrangement, instrumental music, vocal music, classical dance, folk dance,
quiz, rangoli and antyakshari. All the competitions were keenly contested.
For the valedictory function, the Chief Guest was Dr.K.R.R.Mohana Rao and
Smt. Pramila Devi gave away the prizes.
The Vth U.H.S Intermedical Collegiate Games and Sports Meet was declared
open on 12th Dec 1996 by the Chief Guest Dr.P.Srihar Rao at a colourful
ceremony at the GMC grounds. Dr.P.Srihari Rao was an old student of GMC
and was an outstanding sportsman in a number of games and sports. It was
a fitting tribute to declare him as the best sportsman for the five decades.
Various sportsman and athletes both men & women from all the medical
and dental colleges in the state, gathered here in the GMC and exhibited
their sportsmanship that emerged victorious.
Dr.Mrs.Syamala Bhaskaran, a former student was the Chief Guest for the
closing ceremony and she gave away the prizes to the winners.
The Medical, Health, Scientific and Family Welfare Exhibition of the
GMC held as a part of the GJC was inaugurates on the 19th dec 1996 by the
Collector and District Magistrate Sri G.Nageswara Rao, District Judge Sr.
Ramakrishna and Smt. Sameera Khan, wife of Sri A.K.Khan, D.I.G of Police.
The Exhibition was an instantaneous success as evidenced by the rushes
on the first day itself. All the departments of various pre-clinical and
clinical subjects took a lot of pains to put up a
Grand show, which was both informative and educative. We are thankful
to our neighbors Siddartha Medical College for having helped us by providing
a good amount of material, which included charts, exhibits and models.
The very fact that even a layman could obtain considerable insight into
various medical and health aspects goes a long way to prove how worthy
the Exhibition was. People from Guntur and neighboring districts stood
in a serpentine queues to watch each and every department stall. In view
of the Public response the Exhibition was extended for two more days and
the Exhibition to a close on the 29th Dec 1996.
On the 30th Dec 1996 the students of GMC both past and present gathers
here to share their reminiscences in the historic occasion. It was really
and occasion to be treasured in our memories as the old students of GMC
scattered all over the world, made it a point to meet here on the occasion
of GJC of GMC. On this occasion, the first batch of students and the retired
Professors are honored. Cultural activities preceded and followed the Costume
Dinner, which added fervor and fun where the veterans and the present conglomerated
and chatted to each other with great admiration and undescribed happiness.
I cannot say the GJC are ended, for the curtain of these Celebrations
always remain raised in the hearts and should never come down at least
in the hearts if not physically. I can only say that these historical GJC
will have a go only when this college celebrated its another jubilee celebrations.
I take the opportunity to recollect the sponsoring of the Alumni of
our college at North America who have formed themselves into a registered
body and expressed their desire to have a physical structure constructed
with their substantial aid to their alma mater. Eventually the laying of
the foundation stone for the Guntur Medical College Alumni of North America
Auditorium at this college bore-fruits and the same is being done by our
beloved Hon’ble Chief Minister Sri Nara Chandra Babu Naidu today.
Pylon is unveiled by our beloved Hon’ble Prime Minister who has come
here in spite of so many preoccupied busy schedules. This will definitely
add to the history of GMC where the V.V.I.P of this country – Prime Minister
visited GMC, Guntur the prominence of which unveiling has no precedence.
On an occasion like this, we should offer our salutations to all those
who nurtured the college from its inception, to all those who trained the
countless medicos and to all those who made it a bright star in the world.
The institution had a noble past. Let us wish our alma mater glorious future
and matchless supremacy.
