He that loveth Books
Will never want a faithful friend
A wholesome counselor
A Cheerful companion
An effectual comforter

The present library
had it’s humble beginning in the rear wing of the present Physiology
Department. Then it was temporarily shifted into the Regional Laboratory
before attaining it’s present state. The Present stone built library cum
auditorium building was opened on February 7th 1962, by late Major K.N.Rao.
The library is adorned with portraits of notable scientists and medical
men , thanks to the efforts of B. Venkateshwara Rao(then artist). It has
two statues of Buddha and Dhanvantri carved out of Nagarjuna Sagar marble
at the entrance. Appropriate proverbs adore the library walls and give
it a real facelift. The library in earlier days used to get books from
USIS, Ciba, British Council, Lange, WHO, UNICEF, Wheat Loan, Colombo and
many generous doctors and organizations apart from it’s funding. Dr. D.Jagannatha
Reddy plays a key role in getting many books to the library. He himself
has donated many books. At present it has a collection of 24,446 books
and many rare old books are a prized possession. The library used to subscribe
250 periodicals in the 1960’s, but now it can afford 50 periodicals due
to the meager Government funding and devalued Rupee status against the
Dollar. The library is thankful to the GMCANA for their generous help in
paying the subscription of 12 Journals in 1994. The library is thankful
to Doctors , B.V.S.Murthy, D.Govinda Das, T. Krishna Kumar, V. Suresh,
G.Pratap Kumar, Ramaiah, G.Sekhar, K.M.Lakshmana Rao, Dr. A. Raghava Rao,
M.V. Sailaja, M.V. Neeraja, P.Srinivas, B.Bamesh and many others who had
donated books and periodicals to benefit library users. We hope that old
students and well wishers of library continue to extend their magnanimous
support by sending old or new books and periodicals. Such a kind of gesture
will go a long way in upgrading the library under the present financial
constraints. The library continues to work from 9 A.M to 9 P.M since it’s
inception on all working days. There are separate sections for UG and PG
students and the staff. The Library has a photocopying facility, thanks
to the generous donation of GMCANA. A video library was opened on August
15th 1995 by Dr. K.M. Lakshmana Rao, with the Television and Video donated
by the GMCANA. It has the collection of 26 cassettes on medical topics.
A generator installed in 1992 always comes handy as load shedding in prevalent
almost throughout the year and especially during the summer. A new water
cooler was installed in April 1996 by Dr. K.M. Lakshmana Rao and helps
to beat off the blazing Guntur Sun. Constraints of finance, personnel and
space have limited the use of the library. An open-access system with a
lending section can be started for all the members to encourage reading
habit. A separate section for general magazines, a computer section with
multimedia facility and MEDLARS link up and a career guidance cell can
be setup with the healthy cooperation of the college staff, Students, Old
Students and well wishers.
Even with it’s constraints and deficiencies
the library continues to render exemplary service to it’s users.
The Online Catalogue of all
books in the library will be kept in the website soon.
Reading Room is built by GMCANA recently
and it is kept open upto 10.00 P.M for the convience of the students.
