Department of Nephrology was inagurated on 24-3-1993 with
sanctioned staff of one Professor and 2 Asst. Professor. It started
functioning with one Asst.Professor Dr. Y.V.S.Prabhakar.
Dr. V. Siva Kumar joined as Professor of Nephrology in August, 1993 but
left the service in April,94
Dr.M/Somasekhar joined as professor in 1995 and went of leave.
The Department has 8 beds for male patinets and 4 beds for female
patinets patinets drawn from Medical department. The bed occupancy is 60% on
average.
The out patient clinic is functioning on two days in a week and about
350-400 New patinets are attending per year. These statistics are comparable
with units functioning elese where in the state except Osmania General
Hospital Hyderabad.
This unit caters to needs of patients coming from west Govdavari,
Krishna, Guntur, nalgonda and Prakasam Distirict.
Inspite of shrotage in personnel and equipment, procedures like
pertoneal dialysis are being undertaken.
A clinical trial of use of ACE blockers for chyluria is under progress.
Two papers are presented in the State Midterm Conference of A.P.I.
