In the year 1995 Prof. M. Muniswamy was appointed as
the Superintendent, Govt. General Hospital, Guntur and he was the first
Professor of was also appointed as Professor o surgery of our college during
this time. These two eminent surgeons have worked for the development and
improvement of this department.
Seeing the improvement and quality of the services rendered by this
departmet to the patients o surgery in this region, the Government has
recognized the importance of a full-fledged surgery department ion Guntur
Medical College and after careful examination, the Government have appointed
Dr, K. SadasivaRao M.S. And Dr.
M. gopala Krishna MS., as Honorary Professors and surgeions in this Collete.
Thgeir excellent teaching and profesional approach has really worked to a
great extent and the morale of this department was boosted up in this period.
During this period Prof. N. Venkateswara Rao and Pro. S. Chandrasekhara
Sastry were appointed as Additional Professors of Surgery around this time.
Their efforts have completely changed the pattern of this department. The
importance of speciality units was also considered during this period and prof.
Jaffer Khan and Prof. C.R. Rajagopalan were appointed as Thoracic Surgeons
Successively.
After retirement of Prof. Muniswamy, Pro. I. Chalapathi naidu was
appointees principal and Professor of surgery of this college. He was atoweer ofn strength to this college in general and Surgery Department
in Particular.
Prof. L. Suryanarayana took over the officd of the Superintendent,
Govt. General Hospital and Professor of Surgery of this college in the year
1964. He was mainly responsible for the starting up of a 24 hours emergency
theatre and special Surgery Theater in this hospital. Later Pro. L.
Suryanarayana Acted as the First vice-chancellor of A.P. University of Health
Sciences and thus the name of this department has entered the history books.
Prof. B. Shanmugeswara Rao well known for academic & professional
skills was appointed as Principal and professor of Surgery of this college in
the year 1974.
Prof. N. Venkatreswaran rao, a good surgeon & excellent teacher
took over as professor of surgery in the year 1982.
Prof. E.N.B. Sarma took charge as Principal and Professor of surgery in
n19083. Besides beinbg a talented administrator he was having an excellent
academic and professional record.
Pro. N.V.S. Chowdary , Prof. M. Pandurangaraju and Prof. R.B.
Krishnamurthy have worked as Professors of this department from 1985. Their
talented teaching and clinical & surgical dexterity have earned a niche
for this department in the state. Prof.A.
Raghava Rao worked as principal and professor of Surgery opf this college from
march, 1992 to July 1992. Prof. A Ranghava Rao has conducted a C.M.E. Program
in Surgery in his short tenure. He is a great philosopher and compiled many
books in Indian Mythology.
Prof. T. Chennamallappa and Pro. D.V. Nandakumar have worked as
professors of Professors of thgis department in the year 1992.
Prof. K.M. Lakshmana Rao took over as the Principal and Professor of
Surgery from June, 1995 and he has worked in this college until May, 1996. He
has brought name and fame to this college and department both nationally and
internationally. Prof. Lakshmana rao was the first surgeon from India who
became the President of the V Congress of the Asian Association of Endocrine
Surgeons unern whose presidential office the V.Congress was held at Hyderabad,
Which was largely attended by delegates including the reputed teacher of
Surgery – Prof. Selvin Taylor.
This Department has conducted many seminars and C.M.E. programmes. It
is conducting monthly meeting inviting the surgeions of Guntur to participate
and give their lectures and to exchange their views and experiences in the
field of surgery for betterment of patient care. Eminent Surgeons of the town
like Dr. N. Venkateswara Rao, Dr. M. Gopala Krishana, Dr. G.V. Krishana Rao,
Dr.C.Kam prasad, Dr. K. Ravi Babu, Dr. V. Bala Bhaskara Rao, Dr. K. Pullaiah
Chowdary, Dr. A. Pulla Rao, Dr. Dr. Nandipati Subbarao, Dr. c. Jagnnadha rao,
Dr. A. Lakshmaiah, Dr. M. Jagadish, Dr. K. Suresh, Dr.V. Lakshman, Dr. K.
Ramalingeswara Rao, Dr. R. Jaya Chandra, Dr. D. Muralil, Dr. D.C.
Madhuysudhana Rao, Dr. K. Rangarao, Dr. S. Viswantha, Dr. B.Srinivasa Rao
& Dr. Nageswara rao,have
beenn participating and offering their guest lectures and this is resulting as
a great reorientation for the medical teaching for the U.G., P.G., and House
Surgeons andalso to young
practicing doctors of town.
We always believein the
fore-front of teaching and serving of the patients in the college, Hospital.
The participating and service of our Assistant Professors and P.G. Students in
the recent flood hit areas, of Godavari District is a standing example of the
services being rendered by this Department.
